Wrist & Hand Pain

Wrist and hand pain

Wrist and hand pain can be debilitating beacause we use our hands in almost every aspect of our lives. From Communicating with each other to feeding a child, we use our hands.

The problems of the hand are intimately linked to, or due to, the elbow and shoulder. This is because These joints all work together in a complex mechanism, to enable the delicate and precise, movement of the fingers. Injuries are usually rather complex and painful due the complex anatomy and concentration of nerves in this important area of the body.

Pain can be caused by disease or injury affecting any aspect, including the bones, ligaments, and connective tissue surrounding the area.

Joint pain is a feature of arthritis in the hand and may be caused by Osteoarthritis or Rheumatoid Arthritis – the two most common forms of arthritis affecting the wrist and hand.

Repetitive injuries can also cause pain and are more common now with the advent of computers and other electronic devices.

Carpal tunnel is an Impingement or trapping of the median Nerve of the wrist causing discomfort, cramping and tingling in the wrist and hand. De Quervain’s disease also causes wrist pain as it affects the tendons of the thumb.

Trauma is a very common cause and is often seen in impact to, the hand and wrist. It is also caused by trauma inflicted BY the hand as in punching.

We can treat hand pain, wrist pain, and finger pain and also help to restore function, rehabilitate injuries, rehabilitate after an operation or just help treat the painful areas of the body. Muscles, ligaments, tendons, nerves, and joints can all be helped.
